#37- Help Jack learn to sttn (sleep thru the night).

Jack has been sleeping through the night for the last 6 months. That’s half his life and I’m just now blogging about it. Sad.

Jack was a terrible sleeper. Awful. I won’t say “the worst” (how would I know, anyway), but he was bad. The boy was perfect in every other way. He was always in a good mood when he was awake. never a sign of colic, hardly fussy, just the best baby you could imagine. Except. He wouldn’t sleep on his own. He loved to be snuggly buggly with mom or dad. Which, for the first month or so, was fine. But, going to bed at midnight and then waking up at 3:30am for 6 months does not make for a good living situation.

Introducing the book that saved my marriage (not really, but it sounded like a great ad…wait, let me clarify…the marriage was and is fine…it needed no saving. But, if it did, I would turn to this book):

Oh, Dr. Ferber. You are a dream worker. Seriously. I’ve heard horror stories about letting your child “cry it out” to go to sleep. This book offers a modified version of that where you check on them during planned intervals (it’s very Pavlovian). We started during his morning nap on a Thursday and I was singing the Hallelujah Chorus on Friday morning. I couldn’t believe it. The boy could sleep! On his own! And now…so can mommy.

#15: Get a trendy new haircut and maintain it for 6 months

Alright, alright, I hear ya Joyce. I have been totally slacking on this blog, so it’s catch up time. I’m not going to get it allll in because I need to go take a shower while Jack’s asleep ad have time to fix my trendy new HAIRCUT!!!!! Well, it’s not that trendy, but it is a haircut, so that counts for something, right?

Background- the last haircut I got was 15 bucks and it was done by some woman in South Carolina who knew my dad before he moved away from that town in (wait for it) 1975! Yeah. I’m a low maintenance kinda gal. I never used to be. I used to spend the big bucks getting my hair cut and colored- but all that changed about a year ago.

So, here’s me before. I don’t have an after, yet. I’ll get Jon to take a picture sometime today.

Just paid off cc #2. That’s right, folks, two in one day. That must be some kinda record šŸ™‚

#40: Pay off cc debt. One down!

I am pumped. PUMPED. It was only $800, but that’s $800 that we now don’t need to worry about. It was on the card with highest interest- that’s the plan we’re using. Get the high interest done first and keep on moving. While I’m on the phone paying things off, I’m also convincing them to lower our rates. That way, we can keep the cards open to keep our credit scores up.

Tag. I’m it. January 31, 2008

I was just reading through another blog when suddenly I realized that I had been tagged. Go through and read that blog if you have a chance. She shared 6 really interesting things (I think so, anyway). Now, I have a lot to live up to.Ā  So, I’m supposed to share 6 things about myself (yikes) and then tag 6 more people. Here goes nothing.

1. I wish that I hadn’t come back from England after only one year. Back story: Jon was in the Marine reserves when I decided to teach overseas. I had full intentions of staying for the two, tax free, years. While I was there, Jon was deployed. I quickly went into a downward spiral and KNEW that I would need to go home after the school year was complete. I came back. Jon and I got married. I wish I had stayed just one more year.

2. I’m jealous of people who are neat. I’m not. I am a total slob. I don’t spend my free time cleaning, I would rather spend it with my husband, son or friends. I lived with the same girl for eight years (3 in college and 5 afterwards) and God bless her for putting up with me. I went to go visit her after we had moved to different states and I was (secretly) glad to see dirty dishes in her sink.

3. I discipline other people’s children in public. I wish other people would do the same. Don’t get me wrong…I don’t yell or scream or make a scene. I simply ask them if they really think that behavior is appropriateĀ  for the setting.Ā  For example, two boys wrestling on the landing of the stairs while I’m leaving a wedding, in high heels, carrying a baby. Hmm…not ok, “Boys, is this the place to be wrestling?” That’s all. But I wish the eight other people who passed by would have said something, rather than just moving out of the way to get by them. For that matter, I do it to adults, too.

4. That’s all for now. I need to keep thinking.

#93: Not complete, but started. January 30, 2008

After I had Jack, I lost my baby weight within a couple of weeks. What?!? I know. Crazy. Truth be told, I only gained around 15-20 lbs, but I was overweight to begin with. Anyway, I dropped all that weight and then stayed home to take care of the Jack-a-roni. This means, I wasn’t exercising, getting enough sleep, drinking enough and forget about eating right. Fast forward 8 months and I weigh more now than I did on the day I delivered Jack. That’s not ok.

I joined the gym today and I’m a bit worried about how effective it will be. We (Jack and I) went over and I got him all sorted out in the child care area. I hit the treadmill for a 20 minute jog/walk (183 calories burned, thankyouverymuch) and went back to check on Jack before I started with the weights. They were just about to page me. He was as red and puffy faced as he has ever been. Apparently, he started crying the moment I left. Awesome.Ā  So, now, I’m wondering if this little guy is going to let me leave him everyday so that I can go get my workout done. Sigh.

We’re going to try again tomorrow and see how it goes. It’s really not an option at this point in my life. I am overweight and I don’t like it.

#73: In progress… January 20, 2008

This is (yet another) goal that I can’t claim to be completing on my own. Jon and I have been spending the weekends working on finishing the walls in the garage. It’s been a bit much, considering that the sanding the joint compound makes a ton of noise and the garage is right below Jack’s room. That means, we can’t work while he’s asleep. And THAT means that only one of us can be working out there at a time. When we first started, Jack could hang out in the garage with us, but now that the sanding is going on, there’s too much dust.

Here are some pics of Jon putting up the joint compound. We have since started priming (hooray)!

This weekend, I finished the quilt for baby Owen. I was packaging it up when I remember to snap a quick picture of the finished product. Here it is, hanging on Jack’s crib and a close up shot, too. I wish the pictures could show just how cuddly soft this quilt is.

#19- make a quilt…quickly coming along January 17, 2008

Here’s the quilt pieces. I have already assembled them and all that is left to do is to fringe the edges. It’s a “rag quilt” so it is supposed to look slightly worn. I hope (soon to be) baby Owen loves it.

Huh…it wasn’t sideways in Picasa. Oh well.

#75- Curtains January 7, 2008

I am such a slacker. Seriously. The curtain has been hung in Jack’s room since Thanksgiving and I am JUST now getting around to updating this thing. Slacker.

Here’s the before and after. FYI- homemade curtains, thankyouverymuch!100_0432.jpg

Mind you, the point of these is to black out the light. And yes…they have been steamed since being hung up.
